When we arrived to carry out cleaning on this slate floor in Worcestershire, we noticed it had originally been sealed using a topical acrylic polymer based finish to not only bring out the colours in the floor, but also to give protection and give a polished effect. The customers wanted the floor stripped of the old, now dull, finish and to have it cleaned and polished.
The floor was worked on in 1-2 square metres at a time. Heavy duty floor cleaner and floor stripper were mopped onto the floor and left to dwell for 5 minutes. The floor was then agitated using a black pad and rotary machine and then rinsed and neutralised using freshwater extraction. This process was carried out over the whole area of the floor. Once dry the floor was inspected and where any areas required, rectified.
The floor was sealed using ‘Pioneer Eclipse Enviro Star Green’ floor sealer using the appropriate applicator. This was left to dry for 30 minutes and 2 further coats of ‘Pioneer Eclipse Floormatte’ were applied in again 30 minute intervals. Floormatte leaves a subtle satin finish as can been seen in the photo. The floor is now finished, sealed and polished.
Tile & Stone Medic gave after care advice to the customers, supplying them with ‘Minit Clean & Shine’, this used on a weekly basis, just like a normal floor cleaner will help maintain the finished and add significant longevity to the restoration work we have undertaken.
