Amtico Floor Cleaning Service

At Tile & Stone Medic we don’t only specialise in treatments for tile and natural stone, we’re also more than capable of treating and maintaining manmade floor types including Amtico.

Amtico remains one of the most popular choices of synthetic flooring, offering a cost effective, durable and attractive finish for both home and business installations. Whilst it is one of the tougher surfaces out there, it will occasionally need some maintenance in order to ensure it remains looking great. If you have Amtico flooring in need of cleaning or refurbishment reach out for a chat with one of our helpful technicians. If you’re not sure what material your floor is made from then get in touch with an image or description and we will endeavour to identify it and find the right solution for you.

Common issues

Whilst extremely durable, we encounter a few common issues with Amtico flooring. If you’ve spotted some signs of wear and tear to your flooring then it’s always best to treat it sooner rather than later to ensure the damage doesn’t get worse.

Amtico can be vulnerable to surface scratches and marks from furniture, stilettos and other sharp or heavy objects. Felt pads and similar solutions can offer protection against these kind of marks but if it’s already too late for that there are a few options available to reduce the effects of the damage including apply filler and polishing.

Similar to natural stone, Amtico can be damaged by the use of inappropriate cleaning equipment, although often to a lesser extent. Some vacuum cleaners that are not intended for use on Amtico can permanently mark the floor so proceed with caution. Also never use a steam cleaner on an Amtico floor to avoid any risk of delamination.

Spillages of liquids and household sauces can cause damage if not wiped up quickly. The minute gaps between the tiles can be particular vulnerable. Care should be taken to make certain that no moisture seeps in underneath the Amtico. Generally it is hard wearing, but excessive exposure to moisture can cause bubbling and delamination.

If you’ve noticed the pattern on the surface of your Amtico floor becoming dull or discolouring it is usually the result of ingrained dirt, a natural consequence of use. Care should be taken with any DIY solution for Amtico, whilst it is a tough surface the wrong choice of chemicals will be at best ineffective and at worst damaging.

Our process

Our methods have been tried and tested over many years, during this time we’ve developed a workflow that is both efficient and effective. When cleaning Amtico floor we have found in most cases work can be completed the same day it is begun.

Initially we dry sweep or mop to remove surface dust and dirt that may hamper the rest of the cleaning process. Once all surface detritus has been cleared we can begin the deep clean of the Amtico. We apply specialist stripper to loosen stubborn dirt from the surface of the floor. The stripper is agitated and worked into the Amtico, then removed with a couple of light washes.

After the floor has been stripped we use a high quality solution to dress the floor. This part of the process usually takes around an hour to complete depending on the size of the room. A couple of coats is sufficient to prepare the floor for daily use. We dress the floor thoroughly using the tried and tested technique of different coats applied at right angles to ensure a durable finish.

Finally the Amtico can be polished to a satin or shinier finish depending on your preference. If you have a specific finish you would like to achieve please discuss it with our capable technicians.
