Karndean Floor Cleaning Service

Tile & Stone Medic specialise in the cleaning and restoration of all hard floor types, both natural and man-made. There are now a range of synthetic hard floors that offer durability, value for money and even some of the good looks of tile and stone. Karndean flooring has become popular over the last few years, so we now offer a Karndean floor cleaning service for homes and businesses.

Common issues

Like many synthetic hardfloor types, Karndean has been designed to be an extremely hard wearing surface. You won’t experience the chipping or flaking that you might with say a limestone floor. Even so, eventually the results of daily use will start to show. When they do, why not save yourself the time and expense of buying and applying specialist cleaning products or a replacement floor when you can get in touch with the experts at Tile & Stone Medic? Here are some of the more common issues with Karndean floor that require a little maintenance to solve.

Although Karndean is extremely hard, moving furniture can still leave a mark. Hairline scratches or thicker gouges can happen from chair legs, tables, sofas and other big household objects. Marks may be worse when small amounts of dirt are present, since the particles can get caught under the furniture and then compressed into the Karndean. Black marks on Karndean floor can also be caused by shoes or pets.

When liquids are spilled on Karndean floor it is usually a case of quickly soaking up the spill and drying the affected area. If you’ve noticed light, white spotting on your Karndean floor it’s a sign that a spill hasn’t been cleaned up quickly enough. Under some circumstances liquids can even stain Karndean, especially those which are acidic or strong in colour. Solvent based liquids are particularly hazardous and, as with many floor types, wine can leave a stubborn mark behind.

Take care what cleaning equipment is used on the floor and be wary of professional cleaners who suggest they may steam clean your Karndean floor. Steam cleaning can damage the surface beyond repair and require replacement planks.

Our process

In order to restore worn Karndean, Tile & Stone Medic use a simple but effective process and a selection of specialist cleaning solutions. Our solutions are absolutely safe for use on Karndean and help us to achieve outstanding results. It’s important to use only specific solutions on Karndean floor, the wrong solutions can sometimes actually cause damage themselves.

Initially we dry sweep the Karndean to remove surface dust and dirt. We need to get any and all particles out of the way so as not to ruin the finish of the clean. With the floor full swept, we prepare our cleaning solutions.

Where Karndean has becomes scratched, marked or stained, specialist treatments will be applied to the affected areas. Scratches, white spots and black marks will be buffed out where possible, or filled if necessary. If a particular plank has been damaged beyond repair we may occasionally suggest a replacement plank but this is rare.

With any surface markings taken care of, carefully selected PH neutral solutions are gradually diluted to the right consistency before being thoroughly applied to the floor. Once the floor has properly dried it will be ready for use.

For a deeper clean, we can also strip and refresh Karndean floor. This process is slightly longer but still quick enough to complete the same day. We’d recommend a refresh around once a year. Initially a stripper is applied to prepare the surface for dressing, the stripper is then washed away and the refreshing dressing solution applied. If your Karndean floor has lost its sheen, this is the service you will need. Once the floor is dressed it will regain its unique satin appearance.
